keepyourcorsetstight asked: About 2 months ago, I got one rat. Mostly because we couldn't afford a big cage, and wanted to learn how to care for a rat before trying to take care of several at once. A few days ago we got a second one (since we have a bigger cage now) and my first rat, Heather, doesn't seem too happy about it. She wants the cage to herself and wants all my attention, getting jealous if I spend time...

Anonymous asked: Heyyy I'm looking to get a new younger rat and i've been told different things on how old they can be to leave their mother I've been told 5 weeks is a good time after the babies have been split into sexes and 8 weeks from another person and I'm looking to getting one as soon as possible so yeah... what do you think?

Anonymous asked: He was actually bought to be a companion for another rat, but the first one prefers to be on his own. I'm wary of getting another one just for the shy rat, but if it's younger would they be more likely to get along rather than the new one attacking him? I'm not worried about my shy rat attacking another since he's never shown any sort of aggression at all.

peaceandvideogames asked: I have this sweet, little baby hooded rat named Lucy. Unfortunately, she's incredibly shy and no matter what I do she just isn't warming up to me. I've given her space, hand fed her, let her approach me, everything. Any tips?

Anonymous asked: I've got a really shy rat - I've had him for about 4 months and he's still hesitant to come out of his cage or be held. He's been kept in my room since I got him (since the only person who comes in is me) but I've recently moved him to a slightly more high-traffic area (meaning 1 or 2 other people occasionally come by) hoping this will help him come out of his shell so to...

Anonymous asked: No, there hasn't been any blood from either of them, but the last time they were fighting I broke it up and the older one ripped a hole in my hand. Cage size is definitely not a problem, but it's very likely that the older one views the cage as his territory. I'll look up the ratio of successful neuters and talk to the vets about it. Thanks.

Anonymous asked: How do people let their rats run all over the place? I'm very paranoid about it even though mine generally come when called. What do people do that makes them feel safe letting the rats run all over out of their cages?

Anonymous asked: Is it easier to introduce rats when they're older (say 1-2) and more calm? I've got males but they are only a few months old and they fight all the time. I'm trying to avoid getting them neutered because of the risks and I don't even know if the vets in town have ever neutered rats before.

I'm really sorry for the lack of posts lately
I’ve started school again and I’m very busy with a lot of different things at the moment so I’m not sure as to when I’ll have the energy to do some more submissions and answer questions. I posted a while back as to whether anyone wanted to help administrate the blog here :)

Wow, guys!
Last night I was impatiently waiting for the 99 to turn into 100 followers, and I wake up this morning and we have 117! Thanks so much guys :D I’m still looking into shipping prices, but would anyone be interested in a hammock giveaway? I’m a bit low on money so it depends on what the prices are, but I’d be happy to do a giveaway for my awesome followers!

Anonymous asked: I do indeed clean out all the scents (as much as possible, I don't have a ratty nose, obviously). I'm getting a new cage that won't smell like either of them so if that doesn't work I'll look into neutering them. Thanks!

Anonymous asked: A friend of mine got me a male...
being-lola-star: ratpeopleproblems: How old is the small one? I’ve noticed young rats can try to dominate quite a bit (in my experience) and that might be annoying the larger one - if the larger one is older it also might not like playing behaviour (when I got a new boy called Topher, the alpha of the cage was at least 6 months older and was quite lazy and continuously beat Toph up as he was...

Anonymous asked: The smaller one is younger and he's shy, so he tends to keep to himself and stay away from the larger one. They're both between 4 and 6 months of age, and it's an old guinea pig cage, 3' x 1 1/2' x 1'. They're fine together in the smaller cage but as soon as I close the door on the bigger cage the larger one jumps on the small one and starts attacking. If it...

Anonymous asked: A friend of mine got me a male rat because my previous pair had died. Since I refuse to let my rats live alone, I had to go pick up another boy for him. Introductions went fine and they mostly ignore each other, but they refuse to live together. It's fine if the cage door is open, but as soon as it's closed the larger one goes after the small one. I'd assume it was playing if the...

Would anyone be interested in helping administrate...
It would involve posting your own Rat People Problems ideas and a lovely Tumblr user has also given me a good list of ideas too. Moderating submissions and whatnot would be nice too (not that I’ve gotten many yet - don’t feel scared to send in your submissions, guys!) This would be the format if no one owns an image, but otherwise you’ll be able to do something similar (as an...
